There have been so many scares over recent years about the chemicals which we are absorbing, so the idea of all natural soap is pretty appealing. But is this just another marketing gimmick?
There are many different types of all natural soap, but there are only three basic methods for making it. Below is a brief description of the different types.
The Melt and Pour Natural Soap Method
This is a very simple way to make soap and a great fun activity for kids. But this is not how the natural soaps which you buy should be made. As They are high in glycerine and although they do contain less of the stringent detergents which can harm your skin, they do not have as many advantages either.
The Cold Set Natural Soap Process
This makes soap from oils or fats and lye. Lye is often thought to be very caustic, which it is, but this quality is removed during the soap making process. For this kind of soap it is not necessary to have added glycerine, it is a result of the chemical reaction between the lye and the oils. The amount of lather produced by the soap and its texture is defined by the oils used.
The Hot Set Natural Soap Process
This is very similar to the cold set method; however, to increase productivity manufacturers have shortened the soap setting process by adding heat. This shortcut creates a much lower quality soap, even if exactly the same ingredients are used as in the cold process.
So that’s basically how all natural soaps are made, and as with everything there are huge variances in the qualities available. However, is this the best product for us to use?
We all have different skin, different lifestyles and therefore we need different products. There is however, one thing I can guarantee, once you start using all natural soaps you will soon discover that you skin is responding differently. Your skin will start to feel smoother and softer. Once you have let you skin adjust to this new soap you will then be able to start to build up a whole new regime in line with your skins requirements.
Remember that whichever products you decide to use it is important to eat well and be as healthy as possible as the more nutrients in our diets, and the fewer toxins, the more our skin will glow naturally.
